Work History

Energy Engineer

Jamaica Public Service
04.2022 - Current
  • Primary role in system engineering design, design verification and optimization for variety of utility-scale and commercial solar projects.
  • Extensively used PVSyst & PVSOL for energy yield estimation, post processing performance analysis, engineering design optimization.
  • Estimate shading impact and identify installation challenges.
  • Perform Commissioning Test for commercial grid-tied PV systems (Fronius & SMA).
  • Develop Plant Performance reports in accordance with contract requirements.
  • Develop risk assessment, maintenance plan and budget to legal department on contract preparation and negotiation.
  • Research commercial energy storage suppliers (e.g. BYD, etc..) and perform feasibility studies for peak shaving and energy arbitrage.
  • Evaluation of level 2 & level 3 electric vehicle charge suppliers as part of rollout JPS EV public charger network. Assisted in commissioning of such two (2) installations.

Electrical Intern

Self-employeed
12.2021 - Current
  • Conduct residential and commercial electrical inspections under supervision of licensed electrical inspector
  • Plan and supervise electrical installations on behalf residential and commercial customers. Developed single-lines, layouts, equipment specifications, cabling, conduit and panel schedules.
  • Estimated full EPC cost via detailed cost-matrix and local procurement relationships.
  • Presentation of engineering portion of proposals on high-level meetings and conferences.

Energy Engineering Intern

Jamaica Public Service
04.2013 - 03.2022
  • Perform billing analysis, energy audits (level 1 & 2). Utilize Equest energy simulation software to produce level 3 energy audit report.
  • Power quality investigations for large commercial and industrial customers as part off JPS reliability program. Utilize Candura PQ logger, FLIR thermal camera and Aclara smart meter reports.
  • Preliminary design, Feasibility analysis & commissioning of fixed and dynamic power factor correction systems, and monitoring & verification(M&V). Conduct power quality logging to determine voltage swings and total harmonic distortion (THD) so as to evaluate the impact of detuned reactors and other protective devices.
  • Monitoring and review of applicants and issued licenses as part of JPS management of the Jamaica Government rollout of Netbilling program. Attended PV systems inspections and recorded information nas required for the Netbilling license.

Accomplishments

Develop preliminary energy production reports, layouts and cost estimates for utility scale PV projects based on integration of PVsyst, PVCAD or Ratedpower's PVDesign, submission and feedback with owner's engineer contractors and supplier. Develop design and feasibility analysis based on mounting system software and PVSOl:

  • Solar Resource Data Analysis. Comparison and evaluation of all available solar resources (NSRDB, SolarGIS, SolarAnywhere etc) for given location. P50/P90/P95 analysis.
  • Layout Creation based on System Design Summary in accordance with all civil, electrical and environmental considerations.
  • Energy Prediction. based on TMY data for given location, specific design components and agreed detailed losses that determine PVsys/PVSOL outputs.
  • System Optimization using PVsyst parametric analysis to determine most effective string size, MPPT losses, DC/AC ratio, GCR, ohmic losses etc.
  • Behind the Meter (BTM) storage solution using SAM, HOMER PRO or Energy Toolbase to conduct feasibility analysis based on peak shaving or energy arbitrage using Time-of-use(TOU) rate.
