DIVINE DELE

Maypen Hospital is a 200-bed Hospital that serves as a referral center for patients in Clarendon. I am currently rotating through Internal medicine, Surgery, Pediatrics, Obstetrics and gynecology, and Accident and Emergency departments as part of a one-year medical internship.

• Provide inpatient care by conducting pre-rounds and carrying out treatment plans ordered by attendings.
  Participating in daily bedside teaching rounds, grand rounds, mortality reviews, and academic conferences.
• Writing daily progress notes and discharge summaries of patients on the wards
• Ordering and following up lab investigations and imaging studies promptly and discussing results with my attendings to develop treatment plans. -Perform procedures such as thoracocentesis, paracentesis, intravenous line setting, wound debridement, and suturing.
• Admit patients to the wards from the A&E department
• Provide emergency care, including CPR and other life-saving interventions, before further review by senior residents.
  
  
  

While processing my work visa in Jamaica, I took advantage of this period to relax, study, volunteer and explore the different cities around the country.

Maypen Hospital is a 200-bed Hospital that serves as a referral center for patients in Clarendon. I rotated on internal medicine, surgery, obstetrics, gynecology, and family clinic units for four weeks to gain valuable clinical experience and insight into the Jamaican healthcare system.

• Wrote admission orders, progress notes, and discharge summaries under the supervision of residents and attendings.
• Helped clinical team with in-ward procedures by organizing spaces and passing instruments.
• Requested and followed up patient's lab investigations
• Requested and followed up patient's radiology report
• Took history, performed physical examination and developed management plan for patients on ward.
• Completed necessary reports and documentation on time and to specifications.
• Collaborated with team members to achieve holistic patient care

I participated in a clinical externship under Dr. Adam Atoot, MD, and Dr.Simcha Weissman, MD.

• Took patient histories, presented cases, and counseled patients on medication adherence and lifestyle modification to optimize care.
• Attended didactic lectures and board review sessions.
• Gained exposure to the use of electronic medical records.
• Worked with a team of attendings and other senior doctors. It was an interactive experience where I contributed and learned about the United States health system.
• Engaged in weekly case discussions of some of the most common medical conditions like Hypertension, Congestive heart failure, and approach to patient care with the attending physician.
• Discussed published studies of common clinical conditions and guidelines associated with management. This taught me a new approach to understanding medical conditions by reading from published journals.

• Managed over 20 patients per day
• Educated patients about diseases, treatments and at-home care.
• Identified and reported unsafe situations to maintain adherence to safety protocols.
• Helped Physicians with in-office procedures by organizing spaces and passing instruments.
• Collected vital signs and updated records.
